Thetford sets new school record at NCAA Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas – Washington and Lee first-year men’s swimmer Tommy Thetford (Birmingham, Ala. / The Altamont) set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.44 at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships held at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas on Saturday.

Thetford finished fifth in the 100- yard freestyle event and broke the previous school record of 44.51 that was set by Alex Sweet ‘08 in 2008.

With his fifth-place finish, Thetford earns First Team All-America honors. Thetford also received All-America laurels on Wednesday when he finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.17).

This concludes Thetford’s performance at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships and ends the 2014-15 men’s swim- ming season.
