Phi: What made you want to start playing football?
Walker Brand: I think the natural instinct of any young boy to hit someone kicked in. Also, going to my older brother’s football games had an impact. But as far as I can remember I have always had a football in my hand, so I just ran with it.
Phi: Why do you think the team has improved so much this year?
WB: Our team has improved so much from last year because we are a much more experienced team and with that, we have become closer to each other.
Phi: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the team?
WB: The team’s strengths would definitely be how competitive we are and how well we mesh together. However, despite being more experienced than last year, we still are a young team.
Phi: How have you felt about your performance this year as a whole?
WB: Each day I feel that I have stuck to my commitment to the team, to do the best that I can. With that said, though sometimes I might not have a breakout performance, I am satisfied with how I have played and can call this season a success.
Phi: What goals would you outline for yourself and the team for the rest of the year?
WB: As a team, we take the season week by week, focusing on the upcoming game. But all along, we have a goal in mind to be ODAC champions, and we know if we win each week, we can accomplish that goal.
Phi: What do you like to do when you’re not playing football?
WB: When I’m not doing anything related to football, school, or any other extracurricular activity, I like to find a quiet place somewhere away from the distractions of college life and enjoy the sweet presence of the Lord.
Phi: What is something about the team that would surprise people?
WB: During training camp, we went to the drive-in movie theater and the pool as a team. We have also just about put Salerno’s out of business a few times when we eat there before some games.
