General of the Week: Andy Kleinlein
Andy Kleinlein, ‘17, scored 10 points, including a gamewinner, in the Men’s Basketball Team’s 74-72 upset of nationally ranked Catholic University. The Ring-tum Phi sat down with Kleinlein to discuss H-O-R-S-E shooting strategies, goals for the upcoming season and more.

Phi: Shooting 44 percent from 3-point range is no small feat. Who has helped most in developing your reliable jumper?
AK: I would say that my high school coach and father have helped me the most in developing my shot. They have both spent countless hours in the gym with me. I haven’t modeled my shot after anyone in particular; everyone’s shot is different and can be effective as long as they put in the work.
Phi: How do turnovers impact your mental approach, if at all?
AK: For us, turnovers are an issue of focus. When we are focused, aggressive and confident with the ball then they are reduced a lot.
Phi: What personal improvements in your own game do you think you can make this year?
AK: Personally, I am working to become a better defender everyday. I want to be reliable on both ends of the court. Taking care of the ball and playing good defense are the two most important things for me in my mind.
Phi: After shooting at such blistering clips last year (44 percent from three and 85 percent on free throws), do you feel pressure to maintain those averages or even improve them?
AK: I put a lot of pressure on myself to shoot the ball well, but I make sure that I’m in the gym enough so I have confidence in myself during games.
Phi: Do you have a go-to H-O-R-S-E shot?
AK: I don’t have a go-to H-O-R-S-E spot really. I generally try to take ridiculous shots.
Phi: Expectations for Star Wars Episode VII?
AK: I’m not a science fiction fan so I will not be seeing Star Wars. Austin Piatt is the team expert for that.
Phi: Its the day after a big game and you have the day off. What do you do with it?
AK: During the season, I usually have to catch up on work on my day off, but generally I like to hang out with friends. Nothing too special, maybe watching football.
Phi: Favorite Netflix binge?
AK: Prison Break right now.
