Mission and Vision

The Ring-tum Phi is a reliable source of information on Washington and Lee University’s campus that creates accountability and relentlessly reports to uncover stories representing all sides of campus life. Reporters cover not only the breaking news that affects daily campus life but also the broader patterns that shape the W&L community. Our stories bring alumni, students, administrators, and parents together by creating productive dialogue. Our work is held to the highest ethical standards as we train the next generation of journalists, and sustainable, independent operation allows us to continue telling stories by and for the students.

As part of this mission, our vision includes continuing to capture life from a genuine student perspective. Covering breaking news is a large part of this goal, which means we will continue updating social media policies and using new means to get breaking news to the student body as quickly as possible. We hope to explore new mediums for distributing content to students, including podcasts, Instagram reels, and other multimedia elements.
