Washington and Lee is suspending Phi Gamma Delta after finding the fraternity responsible for violating the university’s hazing policy. Members of the fraternity are now merging with Phi Kappa Psi, according to an anonymous Phi Psi member.
Phi Gamma Delta, or Fiji, appealed the Interfraternity Council’s decision on Sept. 29. But Fiji withdrew its request on Oct. 1, IFC advisor Kyle McCoil said.
“The IFC’s decision and sanctions are now final,” McCoil said in an email to the Phi.
Fiji faces a five-year suspension. The fraternity can return to campus in the 2030-31 academic year, McCoil said.
McCoil didn’t say what Fiji members did to violate the hazing policy. He said the university publishes hazing reports on its website. But the website hasn’t been updated.
The last time a Greek life organization received a five-year suspension was in 2023, when the IFC found Phi Zeta Delta, or Phi Delt, responsible for “endangering the health and safety of new members,” according to the university website.
Phi Delt merged with Fiji following the suspension.
Phi Delt can apply to return to campus in the 2027-28 academic year, according to previous reporting by the Phi.
