The Washington & Lee Men’s Golf team opened its spring season in Pine Mountain, Ga. at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, hosted by Berry College. W&L finished in eleventh out of 17 teams after posting the fourth-lowest round on the second day of the competition.

Leading the way for the twenty-eighth ranked Generals were Conley Hurst, ‘17, Todd Alan McDonald, ‘17, and George May, ‘19, each of whom finished among the top-35 golfers at the event.

“It was definitely a learning experience,” May, who finished in thirty-fifth overall, said. “We were stacked up against some tough teams and we played good golf, but there’s still a lot we can improve upon.”

Also representing W&L were Luke Farley, ‘18,  and Andrew Barth, ‘18, who finished in fifty-fourth and seventieth, respectively.

“It’s tough to come out strong in the first match of the spring, so we are trying to just stay focused on improving every day and getting ready for the next competition,” May said.

The Generals will return to play on March 14 and 15 at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational in Portsmouth, Va.
