General of the Week: Kyle Ruedisili

Junior outfielder Kyle Ruedisli has been an instrumental piece in the Generals’ defense in the first half of the baseball season. Out of 103 potential errors this season, Ruedisili has committed only three. In the batters box, he has been equally effective- recording a double in each of the team’s past three games. The Phi sat down with Ruedisili to talk baseball, roadtrips and more.

Phi: What made you want to start playing baseball?

KR: I’ve loved playing ball ever since the tee-ball days with my dad and my older brother, Kody.

Phi: Where do you think the team has improved this year?

KR: The whole attitude of the team has really improved this year- we have the kind of group that fights to win every game.

Phi: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the team?

KR: The pitching staff is really solid this year as well as the defense.  Our offense battles for every pitch which has been great for us.

Phi: How have you felt about your performance this year as a whole?

KR: The team has been competitive in almost every game this year, so we’ve felt good about that, and we’ll keep that up and let the record reflect our hard work.  We’ve got a lot of work left to do too, as we’ve just started ODAC play.

Phi: What goals would you outline for yourself and the team for the rest of the year?

KR: We want to make the ODAC tournament within the top four teams in the conference, and put ourselves in a position to win the championship.  I’d like to consistently play my best to help the team reach our goals.

Phi: What do you like to do when you’re not playing baseball?

KR: Off the field, I love going fishing and I really enjoy camping when I have the time.  I also have fun beating up on Austin Crane in NHL every now and then.

Phi: What is something about the team that would surprise people?

KR: From time to time, the guys on the team will make trips to The Sin City that Never Sleeps (Blacksburg, VA) and stop by Moes Southwest Grill for dinner.  The road trips are always a good time.
