Soccer ends regular season with big win

The men’s soccer team is hoping its 4-0 win over Bridgewater will be a spark plug for a deep postseason run

The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee men’s soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to posting a 4-0 triumph over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater.

Midfielder Kevin Molnar, ‘18, started the Generals’ (13-3-1, 7-1-1) scoring early at the 2:45 mark after firing a shot into the back of the net off of a rebounded shot.

W&L took a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute after midfielder James Brady, ‘19, scored off a corner kick taken by forward David Cohen, ‘17. The Blue and White took a 3-0 lead with eight seconds left in the first, after sophomore midfielder Will Hamryka, ‘19, fired a shot past Bridgewater (9-7-2, 4-5) goalkeeper Mark Davis, ‘17.

The Generals’ final goal came from midfielder Kevin Lencioni, ‘19, off of an assist from forward Geinda Smith, ‘17, in the 49th minute.

W&L held a 21-9 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in corner kicks. keeper Gillen Beck, ‘18, made two stops for the Generals in 85 minutes of play. Davis played 81 minutes in goal and made seven saves for the Eagles, while sophomore Quentin Boric made two saves in nine minutes.

W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts an ODAC quarterfinals match. The time and opponent are to be determined.
