General of the Week: Andy Smithey, ’20
Andy Smithey, a junior forward and captain on the Washington and Lee women’s basketball team averaged 17 points per game the last week on January, including a 19-point game that led the Generals to victory over Shenandoah. Smithey has averaged more than six rebounds per game this season, helping lead her team to 14 wins this season, including 10 in the ODAC. The Ring-tum Phi sat down with Smithey to talk about life on and off the court.
General of the Week: Taylor Casey, ’20
Women’s basketball junior guard Taylor Casey, ‘20, scored a career high of 36 points at Roanoke on Nov. 20. In the same contest, she tied the women’s basketball program record of eight three-pointers in a single game. These efforts contributed to a 79-65 win at Roanoke. The Phi sat down with Casey to find out what brought her to the game and why she chose Washington and Lee.

General of the Week: Dana Lee, ’17
Dana Lee, ’17, has had a very successful senior season on the Washington and Lee track and field team. Lee is a three-time All-American honoree and has qualified for NCAA Championship six times. She holds twelve W&L track records. For the week ending in March 19, Lee was selected as the ODAC Women’s Track Athlete of the week, alongside fellow General Dash Dericks, ’18, who was honored on the men’s side. She received this honor after winning two events at the W&L Track and Field Carnival. She finished first in the 200m, finishing at 25.74. She took the top spot in the triple jump at 11.07 meters. The Phi sat down with Lee to discuss her success at W&L.
Swim team places seventh at NCAAs
With only eight swimmers competing at the NCAA Championship, the women’s team placed seventh out of 56 teams
General of the Week: Tom Concklin, ‘17
In the 6-0 win over Hampden-Sydney College, Tom Concklin, ’17, pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Generals to their first ODAC victory of the season. Concklin kept the Tigers to just five hits and struck out five batters across his nine innings. HSC defeated the Generals twice last season in regular season ODAC play. Concklin earned ABCA Second-Team All-America accolades last season, just the third W&L player to achieve this feat. Additionally, he received first team all-region accolades from ABCA, third team all-region laurels from D3baseball.com. He was First Team All-ODAC, first team all-state, and the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the year. The Phi sat down with Concklin to discuss his road to success and what is coming next.

General of the Week: Ian McDonald, ‘17
The Washington and Lee men’s track team has had quite a season, and Ian McDonald, ‘17, has had a large role in their success. McDonald set a facility record at the Kerr-Creggar Field House and recorded a season-best in the mile with a time of 4:13.92. He was named to the All-Region team and just missed an invitation to the NCAA Championship by one spot, as 16th on the declaration list for all of Division III. McDonald also helped lead the team to their first Indoor ODAC Championship in 28 years. He received All-ODAC accolades for his first place finish in the mile, as well as his second place finish in the 3k race. The Phi sat down with McDonald to chat about his final track season as a General.

General of the Week: Chadwick Feeley, ’19
Shortstop Chadwick Feeley, ’19, has made quite an impact for the Generals throughout out-of-conference play this season. During the baseball team’s Washington Break trip down south, Feeley tied the Generals’ single-game hits record with five in the team’s 10-5 victory over Huntingdon College. Feeley went 5-for-6 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Since the record- setting game, Feeley was named ODAC Baseball Player of the Week and was named to D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week. The Phi sat down with Feeley to discuss the season thus far, and see where the Generals are headed.

General of the Week: Meg Guignon, ‘19
Meg Guignon, ‘16, has been “killing” it this volleyball season. The sophomore outside hitter from St. Louis has 186 kills so far in the season, as well as 147 digs. She leads the Generals in kills and points so far this season. On Sept. 20, Guignon was selected Generalssports.com Athlete of the Week. The Phi sat down with Meg to talk about her and her team’s successes this season.
